EuroHockey Championships in 2015 at the London 2012 Olympic Park

Hugh Robertson, Minister for Sport and the Olympics, showing his skills on the Olympic blue and pink pitchEngland has been chosen to host the 2015 European Hockey Championships, the first major international tournament after London 2012 Olympics. This is yet another real boost for Hockey and evidence of the legacy which the Olympic’s will leave. Even though Hockey is a temporary build in the Olympic Park there will be a permanent structure at Eton Manor where the wheelchair tennis is being played. Great for hockey that we will have a fulltime facility to host events such as this and of course one off test matches.

The winner of the EuroHockey Championships will be guaranteed a place in 2016 Olympics in Rio so will be a key focus for both the Men’s and Women’s GB Teams post London 2012. It will be such a great achievement to get ourselves up on the podium come the games, and using the home crowd to our advantage hopefully get the same result in the Eurohockey being hosts there too. What a great time to be a hockey player not just for the here and now, but of course with the exciting legacy that is being molded for the future!
